Standing Committees

Annual Meeting

Chairman: Tom Weekes, TUV Rheinland

The primary objective of this committee is to plan and make all of the arrangements for the Annual Meeting, including the location, accommodations, registration, and associated programs, with the approval of the Board of Directors.

Educational Program

Chairman: Timothy Owens, Senior Inspector, City of Santa Clara

The primary objective of this committee is to provide quality training to the membership with focus on California-specific codes and building departments. The secondary objective is to provide revenue for CEI in order to fund activities for the membership. Participation on the committee involves approximately three meetings per year in various locations throughout the state to develop and plan training opportunities. Training is in coordination with the IAEI chapters and divisions in California, the International Office of IAEI, and the CALBO Training Institute (CTI), as appropriate. In addition, committee members often teach classes, develop new classes, and coordinate classes taught by others. This committee makes the arrangements for the education program, as approved by the Board of Directors, for the CEI Annual Meeting.

Legislative & State Agencies

Chairman: Vacant

The primary objective of this committee is to address the Building Standards Commission on items that affect the electrical AHJs in California. When necessary, this committee will attend the Building Standards Commission meetings and sub-committee meetings (such as the Coordinating Council meeting and Code Change Committee meeting). The committee also reviews proposed state electrical code and applicable energy code amendments from the various state agencies. The committee may work with the State Agencies on amendments and support or object the proposed amendments in the state code advisory committee meetings when necessary. The committee is responsible for reviewing and providing a CEI position on proposed legislation that may impact electrical AHJs. Positions taken by this committee are reviewed and approved by the Board of Directors.

Public Relations & Publicity

Chairman: Keith Johnson, Applications Engineer, Eaton/Cutler Hammer

The objective of this committee is to support CEI’s mission through various communication methods, such as newsletters, flyers, emails, and CEI’s website. The communications are intended to inform CEI members, other interested organizations, and the public at large. The committee prepares the promotion materials for the Annual Meeting and the various CEI training offerings. The committee is responsible for the CEI website, and continues to improve the website for ease of access and usability. In addition, the committee develops better communications between the IAEI chapters in the state and between CEI and CALBO. The committee develops vehicles to inform building officials of the important role the electrical inspector plays within the building safety department, and continues to improve communication outreach from the Board of Directors to the CEI members.

Bylaws

Chairman: Henry Hinds, Senior Electrical Inspector, City and County of San Francisco

The objective of this committee is to review and propose changes, as necessary, to the CEI bylaws. In addition, the committee prepares and maintains the Operating Rules and Procedures for CEI.
